How long to get Nanny certified

The short answer is faster than most people assume, especially if you’re already working.

Every program at the Nanny Institute is on-demand video. You watch when you have time, pause when you don’t, and rewatch as needed. No scheduled class times, no commutes, no waiting for a cohort to fill. It’s designed for people who are working full-time while studying.

Pick from 6 nanny certification options.

The Basic Child Care Certification is 10 hours of coursework. At a pace of 1-2 hours per day, students can complete it within 1-2 weeks.

The Intermediate program is another 10 hours. Same timeline.

Advanced and Specialist are each 10 hours. Completing all four foundational levels takes students 4-10 weeks at a steady pace.

The Professional program, which includes all five foundational levels plus newborn care and leadership coursework is 50-60 hours total. Students work 4-5 hours per week to complete it within the required 3 months.

The Newborn and Infant Care program is 20 hours and can be completed in 2-6 weeks.

You can check out the classes in each program to help you decide which one is the best fit for you.

The 12-week (3 month) enrollment

Without a finish line, many won’t start so each program is 12-weeks. The 3-month window exists to give students flexibility around their work and life schedules. Most students finish within several weeks but on occasion, they need a 6-week extension.

When time is up, the course is no longer available, but students keep their study guides as a permanent ‘textbook’.

One important note: you can’t fast-forward through classes. The system requires you watch each video before the quiz unlocks. Rewinding and rewatching is fine. Skipping is not.

Can I complete a Nanny Institute program while working full-time?

Yes. The programs are 100% on-demand video with 24/7 access, specifically designed to work around a full-time schedule. The 12-week enrollment window gives significant flexibility. Most students working at a pace of 4-6 hours per week complete the Basic, Intermediate pr Newborn Care program within 2-3 weeks of that window.

What happens if I don't finish within the 12-week period?

Contact the Nanny Institute directly if you are approaching the end of your enrollment period without completing the program. Extensions may be available depending on circumstances. The important thing is to communicate before the window closes rather than after.

Can I start the next certification level immediately after finishing one?

Yes. Once you complete and pass a level, you can enroll in the next level immediately. The Enroll As You Go payment option allows you to pay for each level separately, so there is no financial barrier to continuing without delay if your budget allows it.

Is the proficiency exam timed?

The Nanny Institute program exam is multiple choice and taken online through your student account. Students have 2 attempts to complete this exam, earning a score of 80% or better (40 out of 50 questions). The exam has a 2-hour time limit. The study guides and per-course quizzes throughout the program are specifically designed to prepare you to pass the exam.
