The Nanny Institute delivers accredited, faculty-led childcare education designed specifically for nannies and in-home childcare providers. Our programs are taught by 30+ faculty, are 100% online and self-paced and are built as a progressive training plan.
If you have a newborn
You can spread training across your nanny’s first year. The following progression requires 2-4 hours per week.
- Before hire: Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Months 1-3: Newborn and Infant Care (20 hours)
- Months 4-6: Focus on the child and family, no coursework
- Months 7-9: Professional (remaining 30 hours)
After the nanny has been employed for 6 months, you can begin the remaining childcare training and continue through the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Specialist, and Professional levels.
This gives your nanny early training specific to caring for your baby while creating a longer-term professional development path as your child grows.
Older or multiple children
You can spread training across your nanny’s first 18 months and the following progression requires 1-2 hours per week.
- Before hire: Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Months 1-3: Basic Childcare (10 hours)
- Months 4-6: Intermediate Childcare (10 hours)
- Months 7-9: Advanced Childcare (10 hours)
- Months 10-12: Specialist Childcare (10 hours)
- Months 13-15: Professional Childcare (10 hours)
After approximately 1.5 years, your nanny can hold 7 certifications, including Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Specialist, Professional, Newborn and Infant, and the NCFE CACHE Level 4 Childcare Provider credential.
This approach also spaces out the family’s investment over time, which can be helpful if the nanny leaves the position before completing all the training.
What should you discuss with your nanny before paying for training?
Before paying for nanny training, talk with your nanny about the certification goal, weekly time commitment, whether training time is paid, the preferred training schedule, and how they’ll share what they learn.

Choose a program
Basic Nanny, 10 hours, $350
For the 1st level, graduates learn positive discipline techniques from a child psychologist and get safety tips including water awareness and emergency planning from experts. Sitters and nannies also gain legal insights from a child care lawyer to confidently supervise and manage children.
Newborn and Infant, 20 hours, $700
The Newborn and Infant Care certification is a stand-alone certification with no prerequisites. Its 20 hours come from within the Basic to Professional curriculum, so they count if you continue. Newborn care specialists and night nannies primarily work during the child’s first 18 months.
Professional Nanny, 50 hours, $1,600
This 5th level includes Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Specialist, so graduates earn 7 certifications in total, including the Newborn and Infant Care certification and the NCFE CACHE Level 4. The Professional program covers topics and skills valued by high net worth families and premium agencies including newborn care and household management.
Know before you buy
The Nanny signs the enrollment agreement and uploads a copy of her government identification. She is the student and even though you may be the payer, the agreement is between the student and the Nanny Institute.
Student information is private. The Institute is not allowed to release any information about the student due to privacy laws. The nanny can share updates and can share their certification and transcript upon completion.
Once purchased, the refund policy applies. If the nanny leaves your employment or fails to complete the training, the refund policy remains the same.
We needed a nanny for our son (4) and daughter (2). I hired a nanny with 2 years of full time experience and paid for the Professional training. She’s gained a lot more confidence and has a stronger plan for the day’s activities. I’ve seen the improvement.
How it works
1. Enter your nanny's name and email during checkout
Use her name and email, your card and billing address. She receives the receipt and her login email directly, and she’s set up without another step. Have her name and email ready before you start.
2. Buy under your name and then switch it to the nanny
You receive the receipt and the login email. Sign in, change the name and email to hers, set a password, and send it to her. She can change the password herself afterwards. Or email us at info@usnannyinstitute.com and we’ll switch the name and email.
After the nanny logs in, the first thing in the student account is the enrollment agreement and a government identification upload. Only the student can complete these steps. Classes unlock within 45 minutes of these documents being completed.
What your nanny does after you buy
1. Complete your enrollment agreement. Download it, fill it out, sign it and upload it to your student account.
2. Upload your identification. A government-issued photo ID from any recognized country.
4. Start within 45 minutes. Once your paperwork and identity are confirmed, your classes load into your student account and you can begin.
Returning students adding a level: administrators must confirm your prerequisites before releasing the new classes so allow a little longer. You’ll be notified when your program is ready.

What if my nanny already has childcare experience?
Experience and formal training serve different purposes. Review the nanny’s previous education and certifications, then choose the program that best matches her responsibilities and current level of training.
Is the Nanny Institute accredited?
Yes. The Nanny Institute is internationally accredited by NCFE CACHE, the Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education. The Professional program is benchmarked at NCFE CACHE Level 4. Programs also meet the National Standards published by the US Nanny Association.
Which training should my nanny take?
If there’s a baby in the house or she works overnights, choose Newborn and Infant Care.
If she’s staying longer term and caring for toddlers and early elementary children, choose Professional Childcare.

Does she need any previous training?
No. Basic and Newborn and Infant care programs do not require any previous training.
The professional certification requires 50 hours that are comprised of Basic (10 hours), Intermediate (10 hours), Advanced (10 hours), Specialist (10 hours) and Professional (10 hours). These levels can be purchased as a bundle or individually, in order.
We also recommend all child care providers take a CPR and First Aid class. These are not offered by the Nanny Institute as they are readily available online and in your local community.
Can my sitter take nanny classes?
Yes, as long as the sitter is 16 years or older. She’ll need to have a government issued identification from any recognized country showing her date of birth.
Who teaches the classes?
The Nanny Institute has 30+ faculty members who are experts as all our faculty have advanced degrees, at least 5 years of experience and a passion for child care.
We invested in the right people to build and teach our curriculum so you learn from pediatricians, early childhood educators and child psychologists, many of whom were former nannies.
How long does it take?
Students have 3 months from enrollment to complete all the classes and exams. A 20-hour program works out at roughly 2 hours a week. The Admissions Office grants a single six-week extension for documented hardship.
What certifications does the nanny receive?
Each program issues its own certification. The Institute offers six programs: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Specialist, Professional, and Newborn and Infant Care.
A Professional Childcare graduate earns seven certifications in total: the five career-ladder certifications, the Newborn and Infant Care certification, and the NCFE CACHE Level 4 credential.

Can my nanny start with Newborn and Infant Care and continue to Professional later?
Yes. Newborn and Infant Care is a stand-alone program with no prerequisite, and its coursework is part of the Professional curriculum. A nanny who later continues toward Professional does not need to repeat those completed courses.
Questions when paying for someone else
Can I buy nanny training as a gift or bonus?
Yes. Many families and employers fund training as a milestone gift or benefit. Some require training as part of the first 90 days. Remember to purchase the training when the nanny is ready to take the classes as the 3 month window starts upon purchase.
Can I buy nanny training for a family member?
Yes. Many of our students who want to start a career in child care are supported and funded by parents, grandparents, siblings and partners. You don’t need to be her employer and she doesn’t need to be working as a nanny yet. Newborn and Infant Care doesn’t have any prerequisites. The career ladder to Professional starts with the Basic program.
Can I enroll more than one person?
One checkout is required for each person. This allows the automated system to create a student account for each person. If you are an agency purchasing five or more enrollments, email info@usnannyinstitute.com and we’ll set up a bulk purchase.
Can you invoice us instead of paying with a credit card?
Individual purchases can only be made online using the checkout payment options.

Are the nanny classes tax deductible?
We don’t provide any documentation other than a receipt and we can’t provide tax advice. Your receipt shows what was purchased and when. Your accountant or tax professional can tell you how it applies to your situation.
Can I cancel the program if the Nanny quits?
No. Once purchased, the program belongs to the nanny. The status of their employment does not change the program or refund policies.
Should I pay for my nanny’s training?
For many families, the answer is yes because training can improve the care their nanny provides every day. Experience matters, and strong nannies also understand the value of continuing education as children grow and responsibilities change. Families paying for higher-level care often expect stronger knowledge, better judgment, and a professional approach. Covering training costs can help your nanny build those skills while also showing that you respect childcare as a career and value their long-term development.
Should nanny training be completed during paid work hours?
Decide this with your nanny before enrolling and make the expectation clear. If you’re unsure how training time should be treated under employment law, consult a qualified employment or payroll professional.
Can I require my nanny to complete training?
Families can establish job expectations, including training requirements. If training will be a condition of employment, document the expectation clearly and consult a qualified employment professional if needed.
Can I spread the cost of Professional Nanny training over time?
Yes. The career-ladder programs can be purchased individually in order, starting with Basic and progressing through Intermediate, Advanced, Specialist, and Professional. This allows families to spread training and tuition over time.
